Ceruleo present a performance of passionate music from Seventeenth Century Italy, featuring works by Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini and Luigi Rossi.
These composers were at the vanguard of a musical revolution, breaking rules and conventions in search of the most dramatic ways of setting text to music. This ‘second practice’ led to the creation of opera, and spread all across Europe to influence composers like Henry Purcell and Antonio Vivaldi.
